Mekong tourism forum to promote sustainable tourism among GMS
Around 350 representatives of states, international organisations and the private sector from the Greater Mekong Sub-region, Asia Pacific and the UN World Tourism Organisation are currently attending a tourism forum in Luang Prabang province. The Mekong Tourism Forum was officially opened on June 7 by the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Prof. Dr Bosengkham Vongdara, providing a cooperative platform for public and private sector stakeholders in the tourism industry to discuss the development, marketing and promotion of travel within the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) while also monitoring sustainable and responsible tourism growth.
The GMS includes Laos, Cambodia, China, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Prof. Dr Bosengkham stated on June 7 that “the GMS has a high potential for its tourist attractions to be further developed as colourful high quality tourism destinations through the uniqueness of customs and traditions of GMS countries.”
